About EMDR
My practice is centred on utilising this highly effective evidence based treatment. EMDR facilitates the reprocessing of traumatic memories and kickstarts the brain's natural ability to heal. Most people who have undertaken traditional talk therapy appreciate the experiential nature of EMDR therapy and experience significant improvements in emotional well-being.
Why choose an intensive?
Intensives allow you to jumpstart the healing process and are ideal for clients who want to expedite their treatment results.
Intensive programs are specifically tailored to your treatment goals- typically focused on one or two issues that have been holding you back or affecting your daily life. Examples of where intensives can be supportive include following: sexual assault, birth trauma, traumatic loss, veterans and work related trauma.

The intensive format may fit your needs if…
- Traditional talk therapy has been helpful, but you are wanting something more focused and experiential
- You are feeling stuck on this one issue. Your brain gets it but your body won’t catch up. You sense the need for a shift, but you’re not sure how to get there or what needs to change.
- You are busy! Making time for weekly therapy just won’t fit in your schedule right now.
- You are needing help dealing with trauma – right now – and don't want to wait and spend months in the traditional weekly model to work through it all

FAQ's
How much does an Intensive cost?
Total fees for EMDR Intensive sessions are based on your individual needs and the treatment program design. Intensives are billed by the hour with a 50% deposit required to schedule and the remaining 50% payable on the day. Hourly fees for intensive sessions are $250/hr.
What issues do EMDR intensives support?
EMDR intensives can target single incident experiences, extensive developmental and attachment trauma, sexual abuse, neglect as well as symptoms of anxiety, depression, low self esteem, addiction, OCD and phobias.
Who should not do an EMDR Intensive?
Intensives can be effective for a wide variety of diagnoses and traumatic experiences, however they are not appropriate for all clients. Clients with significant and extended childhood abuse and neglect may benefit from the intensive format, but must have a supportive talk therapist in place for follow up treatment after an Intensive. If it is not advised that you engage in an intensive, it does not mean the you are damaged or broken. It likely means that you would benefit from a period of traditional therapy to prepare for intense trauma work. Additionally, clients with active substance use or addiction issues must address these concerns prior to intensive work with me.
What are the benefits of an intensive?
Access- Because you are given access to appointments reserved for the intensive program there is a shorter initial wait time and you will typically be able to get started within a few weeks.
Time- Sessions are completed within one week, greatly reducing lost work or personal time.
Completion/closure- The intensive appointment length allows you to end your session at a much lower level of distress and with potentially fewer side effects following your treatment session, compared to a series of 55-minute appointments.
Money- Larger up front cost can ultimately save money over time by shortening treatment duration traditionally spent in weekly sessions. By having a dedicated chunk of time devoted to treatment at one time, you increase the percentage of session time spent addressing the memories and symptoms that brought you to treatment.
Schedule- Arrangements for child care, time off work, and other personal obligations can be secured for one planned week rather than repeatedly over an extended period of time.
Location- Clients from all over the country are welcome to participate in Intensives as part of a larger visit. Sessions are held in person in Lismore in the northern rivers, NSW, where you can participate in endless hinterland and coastal outdoor activities. Alternatively, intensive sessions can take place online from the comfort of your own home.

Is there research supporting the intensive approach to treatment?
Yes!
Research supporting EMDR intensives includes:
-Intensive therapy was found to be well-tolerated in patients with PTSD, reducing symptoms with similar, or even better results, while reducing patient drop out rates. Read more HERE and HERE.
-Intensive treatment is feasible and is indicative of reliable improvement in PTSD symptoms in a very short time frame. See more HERE.
-An intensive program using EMDR therapy is a potentially safe and effective treatment alternative for complex PTSD. Read more HERE.
Program structure
An intensive has 4 parts:
- Initial 15min consult- an initial call with me to determine fit and readiness for intensive EMDR treatment.
- Treatment planning- 90 minute session-undertaken prior to the Intensive Processing Session. Together, we identify the negative belief systems, associated body sensations, emotions and images that are causing distress. We then make a plan based on your goals and the level of disturbance and work out how long may be needed for the intensive processing sessions.
- Intensive Processing Session/s- these are available on Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays in your choice of either half-day and full day formats. The half-day appointment is from 10am-1pm, while the full-day format is 10am-5pm with an hour break for lunch. Your Intensive Processing Session begin by developing resources to increase your sense of calm, security, and control, allowing you to more confidently examine your trauma to support you both in and following the intensive. Reprocessing the trauma with EMDR will last for approximately 2 hours in the half-day format, and 5 hours in the full day format, with breaks for self-care as needed. The remaining time is spent closing the session and assessing for additional needs.
- Follow up 90 minute Session- the intensive concludes with a follow up appointment the week after your processing session. Additional EMDR therapy appointments may be necessary to achieve your treatment goals.
